Premiering the Jennifer Moorin Conference Room

Newly furnished conference room with inspiring mural in honor of Jennifer Moorin

We are so grateful to the friends and family of Jennifer Moorin, who donated to honor her memory and legacy. Jennifer made a tremendous impact on The Child & Family Guidance Center, receiving the 2023 Champion for Children Award after 50 years of service and leadership on the CFGC Board of Directors.

The board room redesign has been supported by contributions to the Jennifer Moorin Fund. We are also grateful for Meghan De Maria and Courtney Yanni of Moss Design, our 2024 Champions for Children award recipients, who have so generously redesigned the space, in kind, in her honor.

Thank you to all who donated, Moss Design for their vision, and Alexander Churchill for bringing new life into the space with his incredible mural. It is truly a masterpiece! The transformation of this space is symbolic of the transformation our clients experience on their healing journey!

Why John Skelly Supports the Community Support for Families Program

Lizette Ortiz-Nash, Program Director for Community Support for Families, and John Skelly, CFO

Our donors support our mission in many ways, but the first step to caring for something is learning about it! We are featuring John Skelly, a longtime donor for the Community Support for Families. John's donations help the team to provide essential resources and services to families in need, such as support for utility bills, infant care supplies, and holiday meals.

CT Post Article Features CFGC!

Ruth & her son, Casper, alongside Elizabeth Hernandez, their Bilingual Care Coordinator

We are pleased to share that The Child & Family Guidance Center is in the news!

Many thanks to Cris Villalonga-Vivoni for visiting The Child and Family Guidance Center and providing thoughtful coverage of our work. Sharing our client’s personal experience with our culturally informed approach to care shines light on the critical impact our clinicians make in our community.

Now more than ever, culturally informed care is critical to children’s mental health. This is a story of a mother’s courage in identifying the best care for her child. The story highlights the importance of diversity and representation in mental health care, especially for children and especially now. Thank you to the clinicians and care coordinators at The Child and Family Guidance Center for their persistent efforts in delivering high quality care for our community every day.

CFGC Receives $15,000 Grant

from Fairfield County's Community Foundation

The Child & Family Guidance Center (CFGC) recently received a $15,000 grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation (FCCF).This grant demonstrates FCCF’s commitment to funding organizations, such as The Child and Family Guidance Center, which ensure that all Fairfield County residents have equitable access to high-quality, culturally competent mental and behavioral health services. We are grateful for the partnership FCCF provides in supporting our systems change work and their dedication to closing health equity gaps.

CFGC’s efforts are two-fold: direct service and advocacy. As we celebrate our Centennial year, our advocacy work at the state level demonstrates a century of learnings that are translated to policy recommendations and promote an anti-racist framework in the child welfare system. We use our expertise to identify the roots of health inequity and advocate for necessary changes and cultural competency in mental health practices, to make care accessible for people of all backgrounds. By partnering with elected officials, making recommendations to government agencies, and offering trainings to bilingual clinicians across the state, we are building an accessible and coordinated behavioral healthcare system for children and their families.

Fairfield County’s Community Foundation promotes philanthropy to create change in Fairfield County, focusing on innovative and collaborative solutions to critical issues impacting the community. Individuals, families, corporations, and organizations can establish charitable funds or contribute to existing funds. The Community Foundation is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards, and has awarded $180 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond.
