CFGC Board of Directors welcomes Magna Dias, MD, FAAP

“I am so excited to join the board of CFGC. I was moved by the work they are doing on helping kids affected by trauma. Addressing the impact of trauma early on is so important to having a healthy future.”  -Magna Dias, MD, FAAP

Dr. Magna Dias joined CFGC's Board of Directors in September. Dr. Dias is Chair of Pediatrics at Bridgeport Hospital and the Regional Medical Director for Inpatient Pediatric Services at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. Prior to this role, she worked for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for 20 years in various settings including as medical director at several community pediatric hospitalist programs. She also founded CHOP’s pediatric urgent care network. She is the immediate past president of the Society for Pediatric Urgent Care. She has been a pediatric hospitalist since 1999.

“The professional and personal experience Dr. Dias brings to our Board of Directors is invaluable," said President & CEO Michael Patota. "As CFGC grows to respond to the needs of the community, we must ensure our leadership represents diverse perspectives and areas of expertise. We thank Dr. Dias for offering her talent and time, supporting CFGC's mission to help children and families heal and thrive."

Outside the hospital, Dr. Dias enjoys spending time with her 2 young adult children and her husband who is also a pediatrician. As a family, they train in Tang Soo Do and are all black belts.

Welcome to our CFGC community, Dr. Dias!

Fatherhood program available to dads in Greater Bridgeport

Fatherhood Home Visiting is now available through our Greater Bridgeport Home Visiting Partnership.

The Greater Bridgeport Home Visiting Partnership (GBHVP), a program of The Child & Family Guidance Center, recently welcomed Justin Turner as the program's Fatherhood Liaison.

GBHVP provides holistic and culturally informed support services to at-risk parents of children 5 and under, parents under age 20, parents in the prenatal stage, and women at risk for poor birth outcomes.

In Justin's words: "As a Fatherhood Liaison my role is to reach out and or connect with expecting fathers or fathers with young children that may feel overwhelmed, stressed, or just need a bit of guidance on how to navigate this powerful journey called fatherhood. Our fatherhood program can offer information and activities that are specifically tailored to promote bonding between child and father. The fatherhood program also utilizes a curriculum just for fathers that can help dads reflect upon their own strengths and weaknesses which, in turn, will allow for an individual to become a better father to his child and/or children and family. We also can help those enrolled in our program identify resources to support themselves and/or child if needed. Lastly, my goal as a Fatherhood Liaison is to not only see the families that I serve prosper, but to hopefully empower fathers to feel more confident and find joy raising their child/children, and to fully understand how important their presence is throughout the duration of their child’s life. "

If you or someone you know could benefit from our fatherhood program or any GBHVP services, please call: 1-800-505-7000 and ask to be connected to home visiting services or visit https://cdi.211ct.org/.

Toy and gift card drives

Holiday Drives

Each year, our community helps CFGC brighten the holidays for hundreds of children, teens and their families through donated gift cards and toys. Bringing joy to kids in need and taking stress off of parents striving to make ends meet is a fitting way to celebrate the season of giving.

Are you or your company/workplace interested in hosting a toy or gift card drive for our families? Please email us to learn how you can help.

If you are interested in "adopting" a CFGC family for the holiday season, please reach out and we can connect you with a family who would benefit. Families will remain anonymous to protect patient privacy, unless parents/guardians choose otherwise.
